Experian Suffers Major Data Breach
Consumer credit monitoring firm Experian has revealed that it suffered a huge data breach that saw nearly 15 million people affected.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the company discovered on September 15th that one of its services had been hacked, with T-Mobile users affected. Those new applicants who needed a credit check for device or service financing were hacked, with information like driver’s licence and passport numbers, social security numbers, date of birth, address and name all revealed.
Craig Boundy, chief executive of Experian North America, was quoted by the news source as saying: “We sincerely apologise for the concern and stress that this event may cause. That is why we’re taking steps to provide protection and support to those affected by this incident and will continue to coordinate with law enforcement during its investigation,” he said.
Knowing how to handle disaster recovery and how to prevent a hacking attack in the first place is imperative for businesses these days. For example, you and your employees should be cautious when using WiFi as it’s easy for hackers to set up fake networks that look official. Always check that the network is genuine before using it.
Password management is also key and you should stress the importance of this to your employees. Change them regularly and don’t use the same ones across different services. You can make good use of password managers to keep track of what should be used and where. Get in touch with us here at in the Cloud IT to see how we can help make your data more secure.
